We’re almost done with 2021 and I’m sure everyone is looking forward to a break. SCK will have some staff favourites this week and then we’ll take some time off until the new year. If you’re going to be bored, here’s some cute activities and distractions to keep you entertained.
If wrapping or decorating are still on your to-do list, Noodoll have released some very cute Christmas printables featuring all the Ricemonsters. There’s 3 sets, for decorations, gift wrapping and crafts & activities. The gift wrap set is all black & white too, so you can save your printer ink and colour them in instead. We’ve got tons of free printables, colouring pages, Christmas crafts and Winter crafts in our archives too.
I’m really enjoying Pom Maker’s email newsletter and definitely recommend signing up for pom pom tutorials and inspiration, plus interviews with textile artists. You also get a free ebook of cute animal pom pom DIYs when you sign up! Their recent pom pom wreaths round-up has me inspired to add some colour to the fairly plain star wreath on my door. You can find the tutorial for the wreath pictured above at Curbly.
The holidays are always a great time for self-reflection and to think about your plans and goals for the new year. Whether you journal regularly, or have been thinking about starting, Rainbowholic’s Kawaii Journaling community have come up with a new set of prompts to get you inspired. You don’t need any special skills or supplies but you can join the Facebook group for support and stationery chat.
Aggretsuko Season 4 dropped on Friday and it looks like dark times for much of the cast with lots of big changes at work and some new characters (the trailer above is very spoilery FYI). If you’ve already binged it, have a look at our page of Cute Netflix Shows & Youtube Channels To Watch for more ideas.
If you’re missing Japan, need some baking inspiration or just love pretty cakes, Makiko Itoh (of Just Hungry & Just Bento) is currently doing her annual updates of Christmas cakes in Japan on Patreon and Facebook. There’s cakes from fancy hotels and convenience stores – and even the occasional homemade cake, like the cute Totoro one. Some of them are really detailed and imaginative, while others wouldn’t be too tricky to recreate at home. If you prefer recipes, try Nova’s miniature gingerbread house or have a look in our Recipes & Cookbooks section.
Holidays are a great time to catch up on your reading and there’s so many kawaii books to choose from, whether you love crafts, baking, comics or novels. These 4 are all are available as e-books for instant download and you can find more ideas in our archives for Books, Comics & Zines, Craft Books or Recipes & Cookbooks.
