While the Western New Year has come and gone, there’s still plenty of time to start preparing for the upcoming Lunar New Year, and a great way to celebrate is by making DIYs! 2019 is the year of the pig (or boar)—it is not an animal that is traditionally celebrated as cute, but they are definitely cute enough to warrant a craft post! Here are the five cutest piggy projects I could find.
The Kamikey Origami Youtube channel alone has plenty of origami options to celebrate the Year of the Pig. The wild pig origami daruma is a cute option if you’re looking for a craft with a traditional look!
If you would like to make your own money or gift envelopes for the new year, Kamikey also has a video showing you how to make an origami wild pig (boar) envelope—these would honestly be cute for any occasion though!
They even have a tutorial on origami pig message cards if you’d like something depicting a typical pig. These would be cute for hand-outs to friends and family or paired with a gift.
For a year-round pig accessory, try making Binc Bonc’s pom pom pig. If you haven’t tried making pom poms before, they’re really fun! Plus, Binc Bonc’s tutorials are very thorough, making them helpful for beginners. It would be so cute as a keychain or bag charm!

Are crochet projects more your style? My Crochet Wonders on Etsy has a really cute pig amigurumi pattern. It’s quite affordable so it would be great if you’re on a budget. And it’s even got a scarf, so it’s appropriate for the ongoing cold weather!

Also check out our previous Year of the Dog post—it features a full Chinese zodiac felt pattern set (including a cute pig) by littledear on Etsy.
Let us know if you make any of these, and comment below with your favorite zodiac animal!
Andi lives in the countryside of Georgia in a house packed with kawaii decor and vintage toys. When she’s not barricaded in her pink craft room creating something, she can be found reading, playing Animal Crossing games, or baking something to satisfy her massive sweet tooth. Andi is currently taking a mental health break, but hopes to be back in 2023.
