I got quite a few keychains and charms for my birthday and love using them to make bags cuter and more personal. I’ve had a hunt around for some of the more unique ideas with both shopping picks and crafts to choose from.

Whatever! Makes You Happy (US) have had some really fun collabs lately where you can tell they’ve really thought about the character. These Polly Pocket mini ita bag charms are so cute and nostalgic, and include an enamel pin that you can swap out. Have a look at their other bag charms too for Care Bears, Strawberry Shortcake, Rilakkuma and more.

Do you miss your pet when you’re not at home? ARTBOX (UK) have the perfect solution with these My Pet plush photocard holders from Sanrio. There’s 8 different cat and dog breeds in various colours with a clear window for a photo of your furry friend and a pocket at the back for tissues.

Legami (EU) have created mini keychain versions of their stand up pencil cases and they’re far too cute! They work just the same as the originals so you can store little things inside.

Plush keychains are an obvious choice to add some kawaii but these new Miffy Travel plush keychains are even more perfect as they have a little bag too! It’s hard to pick a favourite, but since they’re sold as blind boxes, that’s a good thing. They’re available from a few stockists including the Miffy shop in London and My Plastic Heart (US).
On to DIYs and ETM’s Studio has a really clever new tutorial for a Crochet Apple Pouch that turns into a water bottle holder. There’s also a larger strawberry charm that turns into a market bag.

Twinkie Chan has created a Bag Charm Party class at Creativebug that shows you how to make 25 different kinds of bag charms over 3 hours. There’s perler beads, Shrinky Dinks, beads, shaker charms, crochet, macramé and more, plus how to turn your favourite trinkets into charms. It’s a paid class but you can get a free 30 day trial.

There’s loads of free polymer clay tutorials on Youtube – and here on SCK – but if you’re a beginner and don’t have any of the supplies & tools, Pott’d (UK) have a cute Bag Charm Buddies kit that includes everything you need to make 3 unique charms, including a bunny and blueberry.

You can even make charms with plastic containers that are heading to the recycle bin. Using clear plastic means you can also trace designs if you’re not confident in your drawing skills. Check out our DIY Kawaii Shrink Plastic Charms Tutorial for all the details.
