I have a massive collection of pouches in all different shapes and sizes, as they’re so useful for keeping things organised and easy to find. I use them in my everyday bag, for travel, and around the house for various projects.

Making them yourself means you get to choose the design, shape, size and features for the perfect pouch so here’s a mix of cute patterns, tutorials and kits to choose from.

A zipper pouch is the simplest type of pouch and an easy way to get started – plus you get the fun of choosing cute fabric. There’s tons of sewing tutorials out there for all skill levels – this free lined zipper pouch tutorial at Spoonflower has both step by step photos and a video to help you with inserting a zipper and lining fabric for a professional finish. There are also no-sew tutorials like our own DIY Easter Bunny Pencil Case Tutorial and Kawaii No Sew Travel Pouch Tutorial.

Even cuter is this cat-shaped zipper pouch sewing pattern from dancingintherains. It’s a little more work with an embroidered face but still suitable for beginners. If you’re more experienced, it would be fun to add more details and colours to make it look like your own cat or favourite cat character. The shop also has finished pouches for sale if you’re really not crafty.
Sewing Times has a free DIY fabric coin purse tutorial that looks so useful for every day. It’s got a big pocket inside plus snap button closure, card holder, zipped pocket and keychain attachment. It’s a bit intimidating on first look but there’s a full step-by-step photo tutorial and a video to keep you right.

I love these needlepoint pouch kits at Craft Club (AU) and they have some really fun designs including strawberries, flowers and good luck charms. The kits are very beginner-friendly with everything you need and the pouch is already made up with a printed pattern on the mesh front.
Japanese embroidery artist Oniso’s channel is extremely cute and has a tutorial for a punch needle penguin pouch with a clear ita bag-style tummy. To get the templates, you’ll need to buy her Fluffy Animal Embroidery book, but the video tutorial is quite clear and detailed so you could design your own.
Mongleinae Crochet has so many adorable crochet tutorials that I had a hard time choosing one but this octopus pouch is so clever using a drawstring style to make it round. Check the channel though as there’s also cats, sheep, turtles and more.

HELLOhappy also has a huge range of kawaii bag crochet patterns and you can leave out the strap to make it a pouch. This happy pumpkin is the perfect place to hide your favourite Halloween candy.

Who doesn’t want to store things inside a little strawberry drawstring bag? Mindy Makes has an affordable sewing pattern with 2 sizes or there’s also a free tutorial for the small size through their mailing list.

This sweet mushroom house drawstring pouch sewing pattern from A Spoonfull of Sugar would be perfect for a craft project bag at home as it’s cute enough to leave out on display. There’s lots more useful patterns in the shop too.
And if those all still look a bit too complicated, Ninni Crafts and DIY has a super easy DIY pencil case using a ziploc bag, patterned tape and craft foam. The video shows zebra and Rilakkuma designs but it’s infinitely customisable for your favourite animals, characters and hobbies.
