There’s few things more beautiful than the night sky and you can capture a little bit of it with these beautiful sewing patterns. There’s picks for embroidery, cross stitch and felt, all from Etsy makers who create original designs. They’re a great excuse to use some fancy metallic, glittery and glow in the dark thread too.

Hawthorn Handmade (UK) have a beautiful collection of celestial animals embroidery patterns using the same limited colour palette. I think this wolf is my favourite with the golden moon, but there’s also a whale, hare, deer, frog and bird. You can get them as full kits or digital downloads.

Tales from the Hoop (UK) has too many space-themed designs to choose from but this Milky Way embroidery kit with a whale under the starry sky has lots of lovely details. Having a printed background on the fabric adds extra depth and makes it a quicker project than it might look. You can also add optional supplies to your kit if you’re getting started.

Kiriki (CAN) is well-known for their stuffed animal embroidery kits but they also have a set of constellation kits for hoop art that come with the prettiest galaxy fabric. They’re suitable for even total beginners with only simple stitches and you get everything you need.

If you’d like to practice more stitches, Nelly Makes (UK) has some colourful embroidery patterns and kits with planets. This Space embroidery kit with 9 planets uses lots of different stitches so you’ll feel more confident at the end – and have something to hang on your wall. Love the photo styling too!

If you prefer cross stitch, Stitchonomy (EU) has an easy Space Collage pattern with lots of small planets, stars, spaceships and more. You can stitch it all as laid out, or just pick out individual elements to turn into a badge or card (see my cross stitch card tutorial). This would be a good one for testing out different threads too.

The cross stitch kits at Sweet Annet (EU) are very unique as they come with custom wooden (or plastic) blanks to stitch on. There are 2 space-themed stamp designs to choose from and they’re only a few inches wide so you could turn them into a brooch after, or even use them as dollhouse art. You can also get the patterns as digital downloads to stitch on aida fabric.

little dear (US) has some lovely felt sewing patterns with embroidered details and these Celestial Sky Creatures are hard to resist. There’s a Moon Snail, Cloud Sheep, Rainbow Cat and Sirius the Dog Star, all in shades of pink and purple. It’s a digital pattern though so you can use whatever colours you have in your stash.
