Bonnets are both cute and practical this time of year, so whether you knit or crochet, here are some patterns to try.

I wear my cat hat by Uglibabies almost every time I leave the house at the moment! I’ve made this pattern twice so far and may end up making more as gifts. You can even make a mini version for your cat.

I’ve been admiring Rhianna Ellington’s knitwear for years, so I am so excited she’s started releasing patterns! So far the swan bonnet pattern is available, and a pattern for her bunny bonnet is currently in testing.

The Caelia bonnet by Ilona of Ilhios is a super quick make, I made mine in a couple of hours last weekend. The pattern is easy to follow, with options of a graph, written instructions, or photographs. And of course the result is so cute!

For an especially whimsical option, try this sheep headband by Sasha Dot Com. I used this in my Halloween costume last year, though I still love it all year round. I’m realising I’ve made a lot of bonnets!
For a free option, Material Grrrlz magazine has patterns for the crocheted be my baby bonnet or the knitted mini bonnet. They have plenty more girlhood themed free patterns available, and the magazine is totally worth checking out!

Finally, a dream project of mine is the Damson bonnet. This is a collaboration between Wool and the Gang and Damson Madder, and you can choose whatever colour way you’d like for the kit.
What’s on your hook or needles at the moment?
