The flavours of gingerbread run through both the autumn and winter seasons, but something about making gingerbread feels very festive. I’ve collected a selection of gingerbread themed DIYs to keep us busy during the dark evenings and to fill us with a little bit of seasonal joy.

The Little Blog of Vegan has a number of gingerbread recipes, but this gingerbread cake is a bit of a showstopper. I love the way that it not only has a gingerbread flavour to the cake, but it also has little iced gingerbread men around the side and actual gingerbread biscuits on the top. You can’t get more gingerbread inspired than that.

If a large cake seems too much, or you don’t need to feed that many people, these gingerbread cupcakes from Half Baked Harvest might be better, but they also come topped with little gingerbread people too. If you’d like a vegan version, why not try this recipe from The Veg Space.

This vegan caramel tart from Rainbow Nourishments might be one of the cutest looking tarts I’ve ever seen. But it’s not just the appearance that has me excited, as it’s made with a gingerbread cookie crust, a caramel filling, and a chocolate ganache topping. Yum!

These gingerbread macarons from Pies and Tacos look so festive and would be the perfect addition to any Christmas cookie box. The gingerbread spices run through both the shell and the filling, so these should be super flavourful too.

The long cold evenings can be the perfect time to start a new craft and this gingerbread embroidery pattern by Rose Stitch Art would be a great Christmas decoration once finished too. There’s also a full kit (UK) available with everything you need.

Sprucing Up Mamahood shows you how to transform plain shop-bought paper-maché houses into gingerbread houses and they look so pretty with a fake candle glowing inside.

This polymer clay gingerbread baking ornament from Tikkido might just be the most adorable thing I’ve seen this season. The gingerbread people are so tiny!! This could also be great as a non-ornament if you take doll photography or have a dolls house that these could be at home in.

If you love gingerbread houses, but want to keep them for longer than they normally last, then head to Flying Tiger (global) for their DIY gingerbread house jars. They have a small jar and a cookie jar, which come complete with paints, so you’re ready to go! The perfect place to store your cookies.

Salt dough ornaments are easy to make and last longer than a real gingerbread person. A Pretty Life in The Suburbs creates some larger ones to hang on the tree and xoxoBella creates a whole garland of mini ones. They’re both made with spices so should be a little seasonally scented too.
