  • There are so many cute character cafes and events happening in Japan over the summer to reward anyone braving the heat. Hilton hotels are leading the way with a My Melody & Kuromi sweets buffet and afternoon tea in Tokyo, Cinnamoroll’s Marine Sweets Cruise sweets buffet in Hiroshima and Sumikko’s Marine Party sweets buffet in Fukuoka.
  • The Pokemon Cafes in Tokyo & Osaka regularly add special limited time dishes and there’s currently a Charizard AR experience where your detailed curry plate will evolve magically through your phone. There’s also a very cute Ampharos cake. We’ve visited both cafes if you want to see what it’s like there.
  • If you’re planning a Japan trip any time of year, check out the Pop-up Theme Cafes in Japan guide at Cakes with Faces which is updated regularly and has lots of anime themes.
  • San-X have made some special items in collaboration with a Van Gogh Exhibition in Tokyo. That means lots of sunflower-themed plush, stationery and accessories and a super cute Sumikko Gurashi paint palette plush set.
  • Tokyo Weekender let us all see the new Studio Ghibli Sculpture Exhibition in Tokyo which looks amazing and would be some consolation if you can’t make it to the park or museum.
  • Tokyoscope takes a look at the rise of Labubu and why POPMART’s viral toys won’t overtake Hello Kitty in Japan.
  • My Melody & Kuromi are joint Friends of the Month at Sanrio – download your free printable calendar and look out for some special content on their YouTube and socials.
  • It’s a new month in Animal Crossing Pocket Camp Complete and if you’re stuck for inspiration for the current themes, have a look at our posts with custom designs for Spring, rainy season and more. We’ll have a new one up very soon to match the summer cookies and events.
  • New to our blog or took a break? The Best of Super Cute Kawaii is updated every month and collects our top posts including the most popular, our own favourites and original guides & DIYs.

It’s only a few weeks until the My Melody & Kuromi series drops on Netflix worldwide and there’s a full trailer now to get you excited! It looks very kawaii and has a whole big adventure story that should make it feel very different to the more low-key Rilakkuma & Pokemon animations. Are you going to watch?
