It’s already quite hot where I live so I’ve been finding myself in the summer mindset, which partially means I want to make crafts with a tropical theme! And what’s more tropical than flamingos? Overall, flamingos seem to be overlooked in kawaii crafting, so I decided to hunt around the internet to round up the best DIYs I could find. (On a personal note, I very much relate to their description of ‘majestically awkward!’)
Diana Handmade on Youtube has lots of tutorials on how to make gorgeous beaded embroidery brooches (they remind me of saori_surunnuage on Instagram!), but her flamingo brooch tutorial is my absolute favorite.

For a cute and simple project, check out Red Ted Art’s paper flamingo decor. There’s both photo and video tutorial options, which is really convenient. They would be adorable turned into a garland for a party or anything else!

If you’re more of a baker, Aww Sam has a post on how to make this super cute flamingo pool float cake. I haven’t worked with fondant much, but I’d love to try tackling this!

I absolutely cannot leave out RNata’s crochet amigurumi flamingo plush pattern from the list either. It’s hands down one of the all-time cutest flamingo plushes I have seen, and as a bonus it’s also a really inexpensive craft option.

My last pick really reflects my growing curiosity with quilting—BurlapBlossomPattern on Etsy has an adorable flamingo quilt block pattern digital pattern available for purchase that is incredibly inexpensive. I want to try my hand at it now…though I really don’t need to be adding anything else to my “crafts I want to try” list!
Do you like flamingos? What’s your favorite project from the list? If you’re looking for more, check out the rest of the Summer Crafts section.
Andi lives in the countryside of Georgia in a house packed with kawaii decor and vintage toys. When she’s not barricaded in her pink craft room creating something, she can be found reading, playing Animal Crossing games, or baking something to satisfy her massive sweet tooth. Andi is currently taking a mental health break, but hopes to be back in 2023.
