Lunar New Year starts next week and 2026 will be the year of the horse. If you’d like to make something to celebrate, I’ve searched up some craft patterns, kits and tutorials with kawaii horses.

If you want something to celebrate 2026, The Frosted Pumpkin Stitchery have added a year of the horse cross stitch pattern to their Lunar New Year designs. This should stitch up pretty fast and can be framed or turned into a wall hanging or cushion. Get it as a digital download or printed pattern (US).

Mochimochi Land always makes a LNY design and Hold Your Horses is the latest tiny knitting pattern. It’s great for using up small bits of yarn and you can make them in every colour for decorations or gifts.
Ami Saigon has a super cute Horse & Unicorn crochet pattern that you can make individually or as a pair. The pattern is very affordable and the tutorial is in four parts so you’ll get plenty of help as you make it.

Delilah Iris has a felt sewing pattern for a horse that can also be adapted into a unicorn or Pegasus, and you get 2 sizes too. If you don’t have the supplies, there’s also a full kit available (US).

I love how carefree this design from Ric raC looks, and especially those gold hooves! The Zorse (Zebra Horse) sewing pattern is infinitely customisable so you can use fabric from your stash or some fun prints. It’s suitable for beginners and includes full-size templates and step-by-step instructions.

I really enjoy sashiko and it’s an easy form of embroidery if you’re starting out. Olympus make great kits with pre-printed fabric to make it even easier and include everything you need. It’s a shame there’s no finished photos of their year of the horse design but it was too cute to leave out. Here’s my posts about sashiko with a kit from the same range. You can buy the horse kit in both blue and white fabric from various stockists, including 2QuiltersShop on Etsy.
kamikey origami has a lot of different horse designs to choose from including a traditional decoration (like in Animal Crossing!) and lucky money envelopes. My favourite is this horse head that includes four different body patterns for pockets, envelopes and decorations.
Hello Origami shows you how to make paper horse that stands up by itself for a cute decoration. Their tutorials are always really easy to follow and only need some coloured paper. There’s also a unicorn version.

Have a look at our Lunar New Year posts for more general ideas, plus other shops and channels that might have added a horse design this year. Little Dear’s zodiac set is always a good one to invest in for all 12 animals. We’ll also have some art picks later this month.
