We really don’t feature birds enough so here’s some cute craft patterns, kits and tutorials to try, many of which are perfect for Springtime.
I love the muted colours of this Dawn Chorus appliqué felt hoop kit from Corinne Lapierre (UK) and using felt is a great way to add texture without a lot of embroidery. The kit includes all the supplies you need, along with Illustrated instructions, full-scale templates and stitch guide. There’s a matching peacock kit too.
Nuvolina Handmade’s felt sewing pattern for Spring Doves is so sweet and would make a lovely gift or Easter decoration. It’s a digital pattern so you can make as many as you want in your favourite colours – and use up those little scraps of fabric you’ve been hoarding. I’ve made their Robin pattern before and it turned out very cute.
While robins are often associated with winter, Rose Stitch Art (UK) has paired them with cherry blossoms, for a perfect project to stitch while the weather changes over to spring. You can get this as both a full kit and a digital pattern.
Pigeon Coop Designs have a whole flock of bird-themed cross stitch patterns to choose from, with designs for all seasons. The geometric style makes them all feel very modern and I think this Swan in Flowers is my favourite.
The amigurumi crochet patterns by MevvSan are very cute, but especially the photos with them tumbling all over each other! There’s so many different birds to choose from, and the bundles are great value if you want to make a few. The patterns are mostly Advanced Beginner/Intermediate level but include step by step photos, tutorials, plus the designer is happy to help you with any questions or problems.
For something a bit different, Gomosaics (UK) has a range of bird-themed mosaic kits for a unique decoration. All the supplies you need are included and you don’t need any special tools, equipment or skills.
And a couple of free origami tutorials to finish off. kamikey origami has a very sweet and simple tutorial for an Origami Bird Wreath in rainbow colours. You could also just make a single bird for a decoration or to stick on a card.
