If you enjoyed our recent Unusual Animals Gift Guide, I’ve searched up some cute craft patterns and tutorials with even more hard to find creatures. Make one as an extra-special gift or for yourself. All the featured shops love animals so have a browse if you’re looking for something else.

Club Crochet has a very cute amigurumi crochet pattern for Cliff the Sea Lion that includes some customisation options to create a walrus and elephant seal too. It’s an easy level pattern and you also get full video tutorials to help you along.

Opossums aren’t usually winning any kawaii contests but how sweet is MevvSan‘s crochet pattern with a mother and babies? I love the fluffy bodies and little claws. This is an intermediate pattern and available in English, German, and Portuguese.

Lori the Cockatoo would be a great gift for any bird lover and can be made in two different sizes for a huggable plushie or keychain. DIY Fluffies has made it available as a free crochet pattern in English or Dutch with video tutorials, and there’s also a fully formatted paid pattern.

Little Dear has created felt sewing patterns for such a huge range of animals that you’re almost certain to find your favourite. There’s even a set called Unusual Animals but I had to go for these Desert Creatures for the delightfully obscure mix of Vulture, Kangaroo Rat, Rattlesnake and Gila Monster.

One animal that you won’t find there is the pangolin but Polly Chrome Crafts has a very affordable pattern to make a felt ornament. The way the scales are designed looks so tactile and there’s other animals available to make a whole garland. The pattern is suitable for beginners and includes templates.

Thinking of trying embroidery? Hawthorn Handmade‘s aardvark embroidery pattern is ideal for beginners and lets you practice various stitches for a colourful piece of wall art. As well as the pattern, you get loads of helpful guides for every step, from transferring the pattern to framing.
I’m always amazed at what origami artists can do with a couple of sheets of paper and Origami dahchannel has made a very realistic-looking armadillo! Using patterned paper for the body is a clever idea too.
Or how about a cute mole, using this origami tutorial from Tatsukuri’s Origami. It’s more colourful than the real thing – and much less likely to dig up your garden too.
Was your favourite animal still not featured? Leave a comment and we’ll do this again sometime.
