Christmastime is here and with the amount of festive gatherings going on and seasonal decorating happening, I think we all need a traditional, or not so traditional, nutcracker in our lives in one form or another. The Nutcracker ballet always makes me think of Christmas and so I have found a few nutcracker-themed recipes and decor picks, and even a little activity to keep us covered.

I think I’m going to have to start with the most amazing showstopper of a cake from The Little Blog of Vegan. The peppermint Nutcracker cake is an explosion of wonder and reminds me of the Land of Sweets from the ballet. The nutcracker cookies are made with a cookie cutter from Bakerlogy (UK) and if you just wanted to make those, then I think they would be incredible enough, but the cake really deserves a festive celebration like Christmas to truly shine.

Luxe and the Lady has created the most adorable little chubby nutcrackers in the form of peppermint red velvet cake pops. The decoration again is what really shines, because the cake itself is made from a box mix, although you could definitely make your own suited to your tastes or allergy requirements. These could be fun to decorate with friends as you’d end up with very different designs!

No fancy cutters or moulds necessary for this Nutcracker cake from Chelsweets; just a picture of a nutcracker shape to trace around and use as a guide for the decoration. You could use any design you like the look of and this recipe also gives alternative ingredients just in case, so it’s a very flexible recipe.

This option is both a recipe and a purchase, because Nordicware has provided a seasonal eggnog cake recipe (left) to go with their special nutcracker cake mould (US). However, Freutcake has offered up another recipe option (right) that involves Frangelico hazelnut liqueur instead AND how to incorporate them into a dessert board or platter, which looks very fun for a party.

You’ll need somewhere to hang all of the Christmas cards you receive and what could be cuter than hanging a card string from these nutcracker pegs from Søstrene Grene (EU).

Do you want to welcome people into your home for a mince pie and some mulled wine with a plain doormat? If not, then switch things up and add one from Anthropologie (UK/US) with some nutcracker friends that will guard your door instead.

My friends and I enjoy a seasonal get together where we make things, like Christmas tree ornaments or painted plant pots, so I might have to suggest that we use this nutcracker mug set from Flying Tiger (global) as our next project. If you don’t want the pressure of DIY decoration then you can buy a pastel set that’s already done for you!

Maison Bohiti (UK) has a wide selection of seasonal candles available, but these squat little nutcrackers would be a lovely addition to your festive mantlepiece or table setting. They do come in a few different heights, so if you prefer taller ones, then check out the whole selection.

Do you need to add some more festive stickers to your collection, decorate your journal spread or even to make your water bottle more seasonal (they’re waterproof)? La Petite Pomme Shop has a few Nutcracker-themed stickers inspired by the ballet that caught my eye, including Clara, the stage, the sugar plum fairy dancing and a solo nutcracker.
