Autumn is officially here and that means it’s time for cosy hobbies like baking, crochet and painting. There are tons of autumn themed crafts, bakes and DIYs out there to try, but here are a few to get you started… and they’re all pumpkin themed.

This pumpkin cake by Curly Girl Kitchen is perfect for an autumn birthday or festival and can be made with any cake you like. I love the earthy tone of the chocolate buttercream underneath that allows the orange pumpkins to stand out.

If you prefer your pumpkins in their usual form, then these little happy ghost pumpkins would be a cute variation to display. The Crafted Life says you could whip these up in 10 minutes or less, so there’s no excuse not to.
Cupcake Jemma makes fabulous cookies; they’re chunky and gooey and absolutely delicious. For this month, I think the pumpkin spice version of them might be the most popular, but if this flavour isn’t to your taste, then they have recipes for sticky toffee pudding cookies. and apple crumble cookies too – two of my favourite cold weather desserts.

If you’re a cross stitch beginner then this pumpkins pattern from Mistawis Stitches would be a great place to start. They also have a similar version with jack-o’-lanterns instead if you wanted something more Halloween-y.

I love how these pumpkin cupcakes from Ahead of Thyme are decorated using spices to give that natural earthy feel. I also really like the sound of maple buttercream but you could always use plain vanilla if you wanted to keep it simple.

Pumpkins are one of the most common symbols of autumn and when they’re flavoured with spices and put into dessert, perhaps even more so. The Little Blog of Vegan has created some cute Pumpkin Spice Doughnuts that not only look like pumpkins, but have pumpkin in the dough and filling too.
I really like watercolour painting and this tutorial from Shayda Campbell teaches us how to paint lots of different shaped pumpkins in a variety of colours. She also shares a fun way to use your pumpkin drawing knowledge, by using them to create a collection of jack-o’-lanterns in your sketchbook. Perfect for a relaxing evening.
