These desserts are all based on works of art, from Pop Art to Impressionism, but they might actually be works of art themselves! What do you think? Do they deserve to be in a gallery?

Van Gogh’s work is probably some of the most recognisable, but I love how these Starry Night biscuits from Icing Insight use texture to emulate the painting style. Each biscuit has a design from part of the painting so they’re all a little bit unique.
Madi’s Witchy Kitchen uses buttercream icing in pastel colours to ‘paint’ this beautiful Monet inspired cake. The video is a long ASMR ‘decorate with me’ video and it could be quite nice to have it on while you’re making your own.

These macarons by Sugar and Cloth are decorated in an Abstract art style, but with a definite modern colour palette. These are easy to adapt and could be altered to whatever colours suit you, the season or the occasion best! You could also find a piece of abstract art you like and use those colours as direct inspiration too.

While these splatter cakes from Little Miss Party and Molly Yeh don’t specifically state they’re inspired by an artist, they give huge Jackson Pollock vibes with their paint splatter effects. You could use any cake, homemade or shop bought, and use either coloured chocolate or food colouring to achieve this look.

Pop Art has been seen time and again as the inspiration behind fabric prints and fashion. This time it’s being used on cupcakes by Icing Insight with Andy Warhol’s famous banana as a topper.

Probably the most famous of paintings is his Campbell Soup tins and these doughnuts from Moonbridge Doughnuts have been beautifully decorated to look just like them. While this isn’t a tutorial, it does give some fantastic inspiration for those of you wanting to throw a Pop Art inspired party, alongside those banana cupcakes.

This Battenberg inspired Mondrian cake from Caitlin Williams Freeman (one of the chefs at SFMoMA) isn’t going to be on everyone’s ‘to bake’ list due to the mathematics behind it all, but it does look amazing when it’s all sliced up. So if you’re up for the challenge, this could be one for you. This recipe is free and there’s more art-inspired recipes in her Modern Art Bakes book too.
