As a huge Star Wars fan, May the Fourth (and Revenge of the Fifth/Sixth) is a fun time of year for me, especially having just been to Star Wars Celebration out in Japan a couple of weeks ago. But, as always, what better way to celebrate than with snacks and as it’s currently the 20th anniversary of Revenge of the Sith, I thought I’d go dark side or villainous with my choices…

Dark side, but fun! I love these Darth Maul waffles at StarWars.com and I’m not just saying that because he’s my favourite. I would just use dark chocolate to drizzle over and make fun facial patterns instead of icing, but the marshmallows as horns is brilliant. These are actually gluten-free and made with mochiko rice flour which will give them a more mochi like texture.

Is there anything more menacing than the Death Star? This amazing cake from Cake Whiz should definitely be the centrepiece to your ‘May the Fourth’ party alongside…

…these incredible Darth by Chocolate parfaits from Pixie Dust and Posies. They look fantastic but there are a lot of mini recipes within this to make them. If you wanted to make life easier, you could always buy ready made options of cake and mousse and then assemble them yourself. If you can’t find mini lightsabers, then I would recommend looking for the reddest coloured Pocky you can find and poke those in instead to give a similar vibe.

If the dark side had a flavour, it would probably be chocolate and chilli, and so these macarons from Goodie Godmother are perfect. The First Order was in part commanded by Kylo Ren, but you could also create Empire ones too if you wanted to stay with the Darth Vader theme – just change up the cog design on the macaron. (These also come with an option to create Resistance/Rebel ones too, if you wanted to represent both sides)

These delicious looking matcha, black sesame, and vanilla cookies from Constellation Inspiration would be a winner for sharing with your friends on May the Fourth, but if you’re sticking with the dark side/ Empire theme, just make sure to only have Darty Vader and Stormtroopers in your cookie tin. Or, you could just use a basic sugar cookie recipe and keep them all as Stormtroopers. The cookie cutters used for both recipes are discontinued but there are other sets available like these from Funko.

Now if you need a main course centrepiece or just an alternative for the normal Sunday dinner (May the Fourth is on a Sunday this year), then can I recommend this Jabba the Hutt Shepherd’s Pie at Yukitchen? Isn’t it one of the best things you’ve ever seen?? Who knew that Jabba would make a FANTASTIC looking shepherds pie. It’s actually vegan too, so everyone can enjoy, but you could always use your own traditional meat-based family recipe and just use the design as inspiration if you wanted.
You can find more recipes & DIYs in our Star Wars posts from previous years. May the Fourth be with you…
