I’ve already shared some cute picnicware, but what about the food? Here are some recipes just perfect for a summertime picnic.

I can’t possibly have a picnic without a sandwich and to be completely honest an egg mayo sandwich is where it’s at. I ate at least 3 conbini ‘tamago sando’ a week when I was in Japan (Family Mart for the win) and the reviews for this recipe from Just One Cookbook suggest that it’s a very good version. Just remember to use Kewpie mayo!

If you’re not a sandwich fan, then why not pack some onigiri (rice balls) instead? You could make some triangular ones but these ones from The Simple Sprinkle are bear shaped and adorable. My favourite filling is pickled plum, but there are so many options.

Food on sticks is probably one of the easiest ways to eat outdoors and these fruit kebabs look super colourful. You can choose whichever fruits you fancy, but I like the rainbow vibe of these ones.

You could always use your fruit kebabs to garnish these mocktails once they’re made. You only need 2 ingredients, plus the fruit, actually at the picnic, as you prepare a fruit infusion in advance. This just needs to be mixed with lemonade and topped with fruit (and mint) and you’re ready to go. Very refreshing!

These little froggy macarons by Bites by Bianca grabbed my eye and the fact that they’re matcha flavour is an added bonus.

I made this strawberry cake from The Loopy Whisk for Father’s Day this year using up a lot of strawberries from our allotment and it is so delicious. I had to include it as it’s full of summer flavours, it’s super moist, AND it’s gluten-free.

When I think of picnics, I also think of flower filled environments, so these floral madeleines from Oh Cakes Winnie fit the bill perfectly. They look so beautiful and are also easy to share around if you have a lot of people.

Vegans don’t need to miss out on the flower filled fun as these little lemon tarts from The Little Blog of Vegan are so sweet and come topped with a whipped ‘cream’ daisy.
