Doki Doki Crate Subscription Box Review

I reviewed the Japan Crate candy and snacks subscription box a few months ago and now we’re having a look at their Doki Doki Crate for kawaii!

I was sent the August 2019 box, which had a Cat Island Adventure theme. The box comes in one size and is smaller than some but they squeeze in some pretty big items. You also get a full colour booklet with detailed descriptions of the contents. I really love how the cover illustration shows some of the products.

Once unpacked there were 6 items featuring kawaii cats. They’re all useful lifestyle products including two officially licensed items from Sanrio and San-X and others with Japanese tags so you know it’s all things you might find on a shopping trip to Tokyo. Let’s have a closer look…

Rilakkuma Cat Towel

I wasn’t expecting to find Rilakkuma in a cat-themed box but I was very happy to see him! Rilakkuma and friends are some of my favourite kawaii characters and they look adorable dressed up as cats. This is a high quality fluffy hand towel – a smaller size that’s perfect for hanging in the bathroom or kitchen.

Hello Kitty Lanyard

Hello Kitty is also here flying the flag for Sanrio. This is a really cute design with a food and drink theme and a bright pink background. It’s got a snap closure, keyring and lobster clasp so would be good for keeping things kawaii at work or events.

Cat Eco Bag

I feel like I’ve seen every eco bag in the planet by now but this was a new style for me. When rolled up, it’s closed with velcro and when you open it up, that becomes a tab that keeps the bag closed at the top. It’s also got a little carabiner so you can keep it attached to your bag ready for use. The bag itself has a cute pattern of playful cats and is a nice deep size with loads of room. I did find it a little tricky to use though – you have to roll it very tightly to get the velcro to line up.

Cat Umbrella

Umbrellas don’t last very long in rainy, windy Scotland so I’m always happy to get a new one, especially when it’s covered in cats. This also has nice little features that mark it as a high quality item. There’s the adorable cat head handle of course but also a strap for hanging it up to dry and a little tab opening on the cover that makes it much easier to squeeze the umbrella back inside. This is going straight into service (it has been SO RAINY this summer!)

Fluffy Cat Plush

Of course there had to be a plushie! There are 6 cats altogether and I got Choco Kurimu (Chocolate Cream). She’s very soft and squishy and perfect for hugging.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I thought this was a really cute box, though you can’t really go wrong with kawaii cats! Some people might want more items but I would always rather have a few quality licensed and Japanese products over a pile of cheap off-brand things. I would use all these items and the only reason I won’t keep them all for myself is if I already have something similar.
