Hyper Japan Summer 2017 Preview

It’s just two weeks until Hyper Japan, the UK’s biggest and best Japanese culture event. SCK will be there covering all the fun (read our posts from previous Hyper Japan events) and there’s still time to buy a ticket and come along. Here’s a few things we’re looking forward to.

Cute Craft Classes

As always, you can learn some fun new skills with traditional and kawaii classes and workshops. This year you can try needle felting and origami, paint a kokeshi doll or get some tips on making your curry kawaii.

Harajuku Fashion

As well as the usual cosplay parade, there will be an extra-special Dreamy Bows x Kurebayashi Harajuku Show. The kawaii model, musician and designer has teamed up with Dreamy Bows for an exclusive clothing line and she’ll be putting together some colourful outfits plus a short set.

Live Performances

There’s lots of kawaii celebrities to watch too with a concert screening by virtual idol Hatsune Miku and a set by animated idol Minami Momochi as well as more traditional bands and singers.

Kawaii Shopping

Let’s face it, this is the main reason I’m excited to go to Hyper Japan! Lots of our favourite kawaii shops will be there along with cute indie designer/makers selling all the character goods, plushies and candy you could wish for. I’m going to have to pack light so I have plenty of room left for my purchases. Just look at the exhibitor list!

Food

Hyper Japan also has lots of places to eat when you need to recharge for the next shopping spree. The food court has everything from katsu to bubble tea, while the Urban Food Fest will be setting up outside with international foods available from retro trucks.
