Animal’s Fantasy Season Coloring Book Review

One of the treasures from my last Amazon Japan order, Animal’s Fantasy Season by Yukako Ode, has quickly become one of my favorite coloring books for its refreshing and cute art style.

The book is on the smaller side with 72 pages of illustrations, but there are plenty of cute woodland creatures to color, such as bears, bunnies, hedgehogs, and squirrels doing all sorts of fun things for each holiday and season.

Each page seems cuter than the last as the animals go through all the seasons and their related activities. I am very happy to say bunnies are quite prominent, and there are even multiple Easter illustrations!

I’m very pleased with the balance of detail in this book! The thicker line art style of the artist makes the details of the illustrations interesting without being tedious or stressful to color.

Everything is printed on a pleasing off-white, medium weight paper that takes colored pencils very well. I have not used gel pens very much yet, but I haven’t noticed shadowing or bleed through so far. I feel fineliner pens could work well with this type of paper, but markers will probably have some bleed through.

There are quite a few single page designs, but double page spreads definitely dominate the book, and every double page design does extend into the spine. However, it is easy to flatten the book almost entirely, so it causes minimal irritation for me.

Animal’s Fantasy Season is an adorable must-have for any coloring book lover that enjoys having a large seasonal variety of art to color. You can find it on Amazon Japan.
